This profile includes blood tests used to show signs of hemochromatosis and to evaluate body organs for the severity of iron overload. Hemochromatosis is associated with too much iron in the body. This can lead to dysfunction and failure of organs such as the heart and liver as well as complications such as diabetes, arthritis, heart failure, liver cirrhosis and skin pigmentation called “bronzing.”
Additional symptoms of Hemochromatosis include fatigue, abdominal pain, joint pain, increased blood glucose levels, liver dysfunction, decreased sex drive, impotence in men, lack of menstruation in women and hypothyroidism.
Recommended For:
Those who have a family history of Hemochromatosis; Those who have 2 copies of a mutated HFE gene; Those who are of Northern European descent; Men as they are more likely to develop signs and symptoms.
